It's Derby Day so you definitely need to be making Mint Juleps for your guests. It is a super easy drink to make so go cut some of your fresh mint (or purchase some at your local market) and let's say "Cheers" to the 142nd Derby.
Ingredients
Mint Simple Syrup
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 3-4 sprigs fresh mint
Drink
- 1 oz bourbon
- 1 oz mint simple syrup
- crushed ice
- fresh mint
Directions
In a large measuring cup add the water. Microwave the water until boiling. This usually takes about 3 minutes in the microwave. Remove from the microwave and add the sugar. Stir until all the sugar is dissolved. Add 3-4 sprigs of mint to the mixture and let set until cool. Discard the mint.
Fill a julep cup or old fashion glass with crushed ice. Add the bourbon and simple syrup. Stir and add a sprig of fresh mint to the glass. Serve immediately.
If you prefer a stronger drink, use 2 oz bourbon for 1 oz simple syrup.
